લોથલ ગુજરાતમાં આવેલું હડપ્પા (Indus Valley) સંસ્કૃતિનું બંદર‑શહેર છે (આશરે ઈ.સ.પૂ. 2400–1900). તેનું સૌથી જાણીતું લક્ષણ ઈંટોથી બનેલું dockyard છે — પ્રાચીન સમુદ્રી વેપારનો પુરાવો.
પ્રશ્ન એ હતો કે આજે દરિયાથી દૂર હોવા છતાં ડોકયાર્ડ કેવી રીતે કામ કરતું? નવો palaeochannel (લુપ્ત નદીનો માર્ગ) એ જોડાણ સમજાવી શકે — ભોગાવો નદી હાલમાં સ્થળથી આશરે 5 કિમી દૂર વહે છે.
